Proper sleeping is essential for good health. Interestingly, a new research has showed evidence that sleeping in a cooler room can provide you with a number of health benefits. Bedrooms with a slightly cool temperature can convert brown fat (good fat) in high energy and can speed up the metabolism, even during the day.

It was long believed that adult people do not have brown fat. However, in the last few years scientists found small amount of fat, in the size of a teaspoon, in the neck and upper back in many adults.  Studies conducted on mice have proved that the sugar needs to be eliminated from the bloodstream so that the body can burn properly burn calories and keep the internal body temperature.

A new research, published in July by the American Society of Diabetes, in cooperation with the National Institute of Health examined the iinfluence of climate controlled rooms where were sleeping five young men volunteer for several months.

During the day the participants have normal standard lives, but in the evenings they returned to sleep in the institute. They slept under lightweight sheets.

In the first month, the room temperature was on 24 °which is a neutral temperature that the scientists believed will stimulate the body`s reaction.

The following month the temperature was lowered to 19 degrees, which ,according to scientists, will stimulate the brown adipose tissue without causing shivering. The next month the temperature was again returned to 24 degrees in order to prevent complications of the cold room.

In the last month, the temperature was increased to 27 degrees. During this experiment the scientists monitored the insulin and blood sugar levels, as well as the daily calorie intake. The amount of brown fat was measured in the end of each month.

Here`s What Happens If You Sleep In A Cold Room! 3

According to study results, the cold temperature had a significant influence on the body functions of the participants. Namely, after a few weeks sleeping at a temperature of 19 degrees the men had almost twice more brown fat than previously.

Francesco S. Celi, one of the scientists and a professor at Virginia Commonwealth University says:

“To strongly encourage your metabolism, lower few degrees of temperature in your bedrooms. My room temperature, as well as the temperature in my office has another benefit – shorter meetings. It is obvious that reducing the temperature of our environment improves certain mechanisms that are so far not a lot has been written and discussed. “
